April 15, 2008wasup guys , i pretty much tow my xj where i wheel just cause i get alittle crazy and i dont mind breakin stuff. well i used to borrow my father-in-laws truck and trailer and got tire of that. so i got me a 05 ford f-250, then i needed a trailer and the gods listened. i came across a trailer a landscaper was using and he wanted $400.00 bucks for. you thinkin man must not be much of a trailer. well you tell me. its not homemade, its from I-85 trailers somewhere in nc. its 18ft long(16ft w/2ft dove tail) and 7ft wide, with tandom axles and the front axle has brakes on it. its also got a one peice fold down ramp. the fenders where crap so i cut them off , but i plan on replacing them. its got new tires on it also. i need to get new tail lights and put some marker lights on the side and install a new plug, and service the bearings. ill take some pics tommarow to give you a better pic of what i have. and then any suggestions will be appreciated.
April 15, 2008Don't forget your weighted tag for your truck if you don't already have one...
April 16, 2008If they have dust caps on the end of the axles, you can't go wrong with Bearing Buddies. It is SO much easier to keep those suckers greased with these and I had great luck with mine.
April 16, 2008Sounds like a bargain. Great buy even if it needs a little attention.
April 16, 2008Damn Kelly you found a great deal, Northern Tool has everything you might need to get it road worthy.
X2 with Steve on the weighted tag, I was checked again on my way back from URE this past weekend.
April 16, 2008Make sure you check the axle weights for the trailer.... might be 18' but not have more than 1 K axles on it (I've seen it! I haul scrap metal and have seen a trailer someone bought, and swapped the axles out for the cheapest he could find)
April 16, 2008i do have a weighted tag, its 12k tag.
April 16, 2008What is this tag just one more way the states to get money.
April 19, 2008here are a few pics i took today as i worked on the trailer. i got the fenders welded on , rewired the whole trailer, installed the new tail lights, repacked the wheel bearings. now all i got to do is throw alittle paint and shes done!
April 19, 2008It's sweet!!! CHeck the axles to be sure on what they are. 3500 lbs probably, but they could be 2500, we had one at work like that.
April 20, 2008hey guys , got up early this morning and did some final touchs to the trailer and put alittle paint on her. see what you think, oh how do i tell what size axles are under it? whats a good size to be towing my jeep, hope what i got is good, hate to have to drop some cash on some bigger axles. oh well to late now!
