April 13, 2008Anyone know if this can be done? I was thinking that the difference in price and the added sidewall flex would be perfect reasons to run 15's instead 17's. Plus I have 5-33's I would hate to waste. If anyone knows if they would fit let me know.
April 13, 2008All depends if your brakes rub the inside of the rim. If you have the tires mounted on wheels, try one out.
April 13, 2008i agree with gail......the wheels are prolly 17" to clear the brakes
April 13, 2008I have them mounted on the YJ. Only 2 problems though, 1-they are 5on4.5 wheels and 2-I'm in Iraq right now. Was thinking of lifting the Rubi when I come home in July and putting the 33's from the YJ on there since it is getting new ones anyway. BTW how was K-Rocks and the Holts?
April 13, 2008I've been looking at rims for my JK X model and the smallest that i can find is 16in rims. At think the brakes are bigger and that 15 is to small.
April 13, 2008I've seen 15's on X models with no problems. Not sure if they used the same caliper and rotor sizes on the Rubicon though. If you are looking for 15's for yours, try 4wheel parts. They have plenty in the 5on5 lug pattern. I may have to order 1 and see if it will fit.
April 13, 2008I've seen the 15's on a jk before also, but I believe on some wheels you have to do some clearance grinding on the caliper.
Steel wheels seem to offer more room than the aluminum wheels.
April 13, 2008Just went out to the shop and look at Shirleys and pulled out the tape measure 255/75r 17 tapes out at 31.5 I would say to much $$$ to get 3/4th of an inch. extra, sell em and get some 35s when you get back.
April 14, 2008if you dont want 2 "waste" the 5 33's...i'd be interested in taking a look @ them...
April 14, 2008Yeah, she's getting 35's but I want to run a 15in wheel instead of a 17in. The difference in cost is about $60 a tire. Figured I could put those 33's on there till we were ready to do the lift and tires.
July 24, 2008i tired 15 and they did not fit 16 had very little clearence
