July 18, 2006I've been looking at trucks for towing my XJ and I want to know if it would be bad to exceed the tow rating of a truck. Also, what do you use to tow your XJ?

July 18, 2006I would not exceed the rating for a vehicle. Sooner or later you will be asking for trouble.
With that said, I love my PowerStroke (just waiting on the CTD guys to pipe in, Duramax dudes usually keep quiet )
July 18, 2006My cummins works fine.
July 18, 2006Chevy 2500 HD with Duramax
...Anything but a Ford!
July 18, 2006My Dodge with its lil' ol 5.2 does just fine for towing
and alot of other things , too
July 18, 2006go with the CTD and nothing can out pull it.
until it losses a fuel pump
ill put mine against any.
ive smoked alot of rice grinders and some of them other trucks we wont mention.
i think any dodge person will agree.
dont want to hurt Steves feelings.
July 18, 2006cant beat a cummins turbo diesel.
I use my Hemi RCSB to tow my jeep wrangler on a flat bed trailor. I still get 13 -14mpg towing that sucker around with everyones gear and quads loaded up. unloaded driving around town i get 15 to 16 and highway i get 18 to 20
July 18, 2006If you want to tow about 20 tons than I suggest one of these!
International CXT with a base price of $93,000
GVW Range: 25,999 lbs
Payload Capacity: 5.5 tons
Towing Capacity: 20 tons
July 19, 2006That looks like something GoingBig would have.
July 19, 2006That does look like something Goinbig would have.
July 19, 2006ya you can beat a cummins turbo diesel.....get a POWERSTORKE the 7.3 not the 6.0
July 19, 2006I dunno, I have the 6.0 in my 04 F350 and it will walk off and leave the 99 I had. The 99 had Banks, exhaust, chip, trans command, breather, and high pitch turbo fan and the 6.0 still spanks it and it is stock.
They both have their good and bad points but since I am and always have been a Ford guy I have to stick with the Powerstroke F-350 Dually
