June 20, 2006My fender flares were fading considerably even though my TJ is a 2004. It was probably due to the intense heat here, but it still bothered me, so I decided to do something about it.
On Saturday, I went into my garage at 8:30am intent on painting the flares and installing some KCs. I finished up at 5pm. I realized that I worked straight through lunch.
The fender flares turned out nice, but I need to hit them with another coat of paint. The final coat will be put on with the flares on the vehicle. I will just tape it off real good. I don't want to remove them again, as it was a MAJOR PITA. Because of the way the flares are installed, my hands are scraped up pretty good from the removal and subsequent install. The removal and install took the majority of the day.
I need to clean the exterior of my Jeep, and then I will take some pics to post in this thread.
It took four cans of Krylon Fusion plastic paint. While the cans say that you don't need to prep the area, I cleaned all the flares off with a TSP solution to get any oils off.
I will get some pics up tonight! I removed the horizontal flares that are aft of the front flares. I painted one as a test, and left the other one as is. I will make sure it is in one of the photos for comparison purposes.
