April 2, 2010Jeep has been in the shop for the last 2 weeks. It has not been an easy process.
-I had a leaking rear pinion seal, turns out the pinion nut was completely stripped and loose.
-Axle seal was leaking, turns out I have scout axle seals, but scout II bearings
-Turns out the drum brakes on my D44 are from a 72 Wagoneer 11"x2"
Its been a journey trying to figure out my poor red-headed step child of a jeep.
Now we are trying to track down the right waterpump and harmonic balancer. Turns out a 4.2L v-belt waterpump with a CA smog 80`s CJ 4.2L serpentine pulley works. However that said we can`t find the right harmonic balancer. The mechanic and I have tried over 20.
This weekend I will be flushing my PS fluid and installing an 8pass 400cfm PS cooler and finishing up my trailer wheel bearings.
All of these problems aside, I`ll be ready to leave April 15th. I just never dreamed it would be this big of a headache.
I`m finishing up a simple website to document the trip so friends and family can follow along. It isn`t near done, but I`ll be using it this weekend to show the final repairs and prep. (www.cjarnesen.com/moab) Also finalizing all of the video equipment and cameras that I`ll be bringing. Would anyone be willing to offer an open passenger seat to a professional filmmaker who is a buddy of mine? He is thinking of driving out to moab for a few days to film the action, I just don`t have an open seat.
I`m looking forward to it!
