September 3, 2007Did they ever pack military jeeps in crates, and were they ever for sale for $50? I know it has been a rumor for 20yrs, and most likely it has been untrue for all twenty of them. Has the military every sold crated jeeps to civilians?

September 3, 2007Don't know if they've ever been sold in crates for 50... but I have seen NSN's on those little bad boys, whoda thunkit!
September 3, 2007Try this link. It explains it all... with pictures.
September 3, 2007Great story. One fact, though. Many Army posts DO have old Jeeps on "Cannibalization Lots" along with HMMWV's, 2 1/2 tons, 5 tons, HEMTT's etc. Maintenance personal can "cannibalize" parts for in-service vehicles. It's every off-roader's dream to know the guy who runs the "can" point on post. A buddy of my got out of the Army and took with him a trailer full of axles and various parts.
Just a fun point...and no, I don't know anybody who works at any "can" points!!
