April 20, 2008Heya guys, a while ago I was able to get my hands on a Ramsey 9500 winch with the wireless remote. I took some photos of the install, and did a write up.
The first thing you need to do is to remove the plastic sway bar cover by removing the four bolts on the side of the frame.
Remove the sway bar mounting bolt that is closest to the bumper.
*In this installation, the sway bar mount has been removed.
The next step is to remove the hex bolts that secure the stock tow hooks.
Here is the mounting plate with the fairlead already attached to it.
With the supplied hardware, loosely install the mounting plate. This is the time to check to see if there are any mounting issues or misalignments that need to be taken care of.
Here the wires were routed on the inside of the frame and ran up next to the radiator.
The wires where then routed up and then underneath the fuse box to the battery, however before you do this, you will add the plastic covering that protects the wires to the winch.
this can be done in your garage with some simple power tools, and if you read the instructions, take your time, you will have a remote that will wirelessly control your winch.
The only tricky part in this install is where to mount the receiver unit. It was made tricky in that I already have a compressor for the ARBs where this would have mounted perfectly. Using the supplied hardware the unit was attached and the ground wire was secured. *After the install I fabbed up a bracket that supports the other side of the receiver unit.
These plastic clips hold the spare connector in place on the winch when not in use
I ran the winch connection cable just like the power cable and connected it to the receiver. Then using the supplied clips, secured the winch control cable.
The antenna has a magnetic base to it and will stay put on any metal surface. At this point, connect the receiver to the antenna and you are all done.
In all honesty, this install can be done in about one to two hours with two people. The install time will depend on the type of bumper that you may already have on your rig. The directions are straight forward and there are no special tools needed for this install. Ramsey has done a great job by not only building a high end winch but have made it an easy mod that can be installed by anyone.
